Cool Detectives#48
Here I come to save the day!
Welcome, new readers, and welcome back, returning ones!
I recently (finally) worked on my Substack publication. Right now, you’re reading my newsletter. My other posts are part of my publication. I’ve been learning that distinction. Many of you are likely now saying “Duh”.
Sorry, a tangent.
I’m now working hard on what may be my longest post so far, which gets called the ‘Hero post’.
I created the graphic a few weeks ago, a graphic you may have seen if you’ve looked at my profile. Nano Banana does amazing things.

Read one old pulp for free. (I wish they had more)
Hooded Detective Magazine, from the Pulp Magazine Library
This looks like a bridge between pulps and comicbooks. One issue again.
This week’s jazz orchestra is the Stan Kenton Orchestra. This was a big band that advanced progressive jazz.

The Stan Keaton Mellophones, from The Middle Horn Leader (Jazz Times)
Stan experimented with his sound.

See you next week.
My following few issues may be late too. I’ll be moving, right before issue 50 :(. I’m working at avoiding the delay.
Have any suggestions? Feel free. I won’t bite.
Share this issue around. More shamuses and cats may join us from it.

Kenton got a great deal of flack for his innovative approach to jazz, but most "progressive" people in any field are liable to get that at the start of their careers.
